Texas Platform Comparison
The 2024 Texas Republican Platform is extreme and out of touch with the values of most Texans. It is also holding us back from being the best state we can be.

Health Care - Access to Health Insurance
Texas has by far the highest rate of uninsured people in the US. Oklahoma is a distant second, at 11.7%. A major cause is the GOP-controlled Texas Legislature's refusal to expand Medicaid, as almost every other state has done. This is cruel to our people and hurts our economy.

Health Care - Mental Health Resources
Relative to our population, Texas has half as many mental health professionals (Psychologists, licensed social workers, family therapists, etc.) as the US average. We also rank last in access to mental health, and 44th in the prevalence of adult mental illness.

Violent Crime Rate
Republicans often claim that crime is "out of control". The facts say otherwise. Violent crime was flat during the Trump administration, and has fallen during Biden/Harris. 2023 preliminary data shows a continuation of this progress.
The bipartisan stimulus bill in 2021 devoted more resources to public safety and violence prevention. A strong economy and high employment also helps.

Gun Deaths In Texas
Since Gov. Abbott took office in early 2015, gun deaths in Texas have increased 62%. Neither the Governor nor the Republican-controlled legislature have done anything to reduce gun violence.
